Apple Working on Smart Home Doorbell with FaceID: Here’s What We Know So Far

Apple has always been known for venturing into cutting-edge technological innovation to bring products that could enhance the user experience. This time again the tech giant is reported to seamlessly integrate its FaceID technology with smart home doorbells. If this happens, the company’s existing ecosystem will further take the user’s smart home experience to the next level. As per Mark Gurman from Bloomberg in today’s Power On Newsletter, the smart home doorbell will be released by the end of 2025.

As the tech giant continues to expand its futuristic technological innovation, let’s see what we know so far about the upcoming smart home doorbell:

Apple’s Smart Home Doorbell with FaceID:

The American Multinational Technology company is said to be working on its upcoming smart home doorbell which will be integrated with the advanced facial recognition system. Additionally, it will be wirelessly connected to the deadbolt lock, a type of lock that requires a key or thumb to activate the lock.

As per Mark Gurman’s report, the company is planning to integrate its smart home doorbell with the company’s HomeKit protocol which will enable effortless compatibility with the third-party smart locks that are already available in the market.  On top of that, the company would forge strategic partnerships with several leading lock manufacturers so that they can offer an all-in-one solution for a smart home lock system.

However, if the product launches, it would be in stringent competition with already established players like Amazon’s Ring and Google Nest. However both products use facial recognition technology, but they are not same as the Apple’s FaceID technology.

How It Will Work:

Just like you unlock your iPhone with the help of FaceID, the upcoming doorbell would also work in the same way. You would be able to unlock your front door by simply glancing at it. From what we know so far, the company would embed its smart home door lock with its Secure Enclave chip in order to grant access to authorized residents.

The doorbell is expected to be powered by Apple’s upcoming Proxima wireless chip and expected to hit the market until the end o next year. The company could also sell the product via a third-party brand; Maybe Logitech or Belkin could be possible partners with Apple.
